Meet Our Adoptables

Alvin and his buddy Simon were owner relinquished and came to the rescue on 2/18/26. Both boys arrived as jacks that had been left to graze in a pasture, and Alvin in particular developed fat pads and a broken crest. They were both gelded and put on a very nutritious diet that allowed for weight loss while providing the essential nutrients they were lacking. Simon was adopted to a wonderful family, leaving Alvin behind. He's a very sweet boy, but hasn't really bonded with anyone. He is well-mannered and gets along with the rescue herd. He's a bit shy, but once others aren't crowding, he loves attention and hugs. He leads, trailers, and does well for the farrier. We would love for Alvin to find a loving home with a mellow friend, and a family that has the time and patience to help him come out of his shell.

Blu is a bit shy, but is a love bug. He does love his individual attention. He gets along with the others, but likes his man cave when things get too busy with the kittens. He is neutered.

Boo-Boo is a tiny, fluffy black kitten with wide curious eyes and a heart full of love. He was being taken to Wise County Animal shelter by a woman that brought him to a house with dogs. He was not safe, so she decided to take him to the shelter. That’s when we found him and took him in to keep him safe. He is very sweet, full of energy, and playful. He has a wonderful personality. He loves other cats and kittens at the rescue. He is a precious love bug! He will be neutered before adoption.

Candy is very sweet and loves attention. She does very well with haltering, leading, trailering, and behaved for the farrier.  Dovey is the sweetest baby and loves all the attention she can get! They were previously adopted, but were returned to the rescue due to owner hardship.

Carly was rescued from a feedlot in late February 2025. She arrived severely neglected, malnourished, and pregnant. She also had fat pockets, a broken crest, and terrible hooves. Unfortunately, due to her condition she got very ill, and lost her sweet baby. She received treatment from a specialty farrier. She wears squishy shoes on her front as she does have some permanent chronic laminitis. She is the sweetest jenny, and loves attention. She gets along with everyone, but has really become close with sweet Miss Duchess. She really deserves to have a special family that will cherish her after all she's been through.

She is very sweet, but a bit shy so she needs more handling to catch. She stands tied for the Farrier, she leads and she loves grooming. She gets along with others, and will make a wonderful addition to a loving family. home.

Charlotte is a young filly (long yearling). Her mother was a Hackney pony. She came to us with Candy, and Clara when they were returned from their adopters due to family hardship. She wasn't handled much as a baby, and basically was turned out with the donkey girls, so she is learning to be a horse with the boys! She is a very smart girl, and she learns very quickly, but she can be a pill, reactive, and very stubborn. She is very sweet with her new friend River, but needs work with humans. She's going to need a very experienced equine family that will give her consistency, lots of love, and training to finish her for her life journey.

Clementine is a beautiful young orange cat with vivid eyes with a friendly and outgoing personality. She was found by a follower of the rescue and we took her in as she was pregnant. She ended up having 5 beautiful babies. Unfortunately, the smallest boy passed. She is the sweetest girl and a wonderful mama. She loves people and is an in your pocket kind of girl. She loves all the attention she can get! She has weaned her babies and will be spayed at the end of September. We would love for her to go home from surgery, so she can heal and start her new life with her loving family.

Cooper is a castrated mini John that is about 34-36” in height. He was an owner surrender from a neighbor that reached out to the rescue for help. We were told that he was only 10 years old, but our vet estimated he was older.  He came to the rescue very depressed and skinny with some fat pads. His fat pads indicate that he’d been left to graze and most likely used as a herd guard. He really didn’t like hay and didn’t know grain, so he got pretty sick. He was taken to Weatherford hospital and had to have intensive treatment for a couple of weeks. When he got home, he still didn’t want to eat, so we decided to give him a girlfriend. Sonia needed to gain weight and was a picky eater too. They had a buffet to choose from, until they settled on their favorite food and hay. She taught him how to eat out of a bucket and what love was. That was the trick and sweet Cooper snapped out of his depression. He is in really good health and his weight is where it should be. He does need regular dental care as his teeth weren’t taken care of during his life. He does have a cloudy left, but he can see and isn’t in pain with it. He is so sweet and loves people! He gets along with everyone at the rescue, big and small, male or female. He loves to bray every chance he gets and is an overall good boy.  We really want him to have a wonderful family that will give him all the love and attention he needs. He would be in heaven with a girlfriend bestie and a comfy stall with a fan and lots of Alfalfa. He deserves to have a wonderful forever family that will allow him to enjoy his golden years without any expectations! One last home for the rest of his life 🥰.

Duchess came to us from a horrible kill pen in the beginning of 2024. We thought she was pregnant. She was taken to the vet, after waiting for so long for her foal. She had all the appropriate testing done, and the vet determined that she has PPID, and EMS. She's been at the rescue for a 1 1/2 now. She's been on medications for her conditions, and they've gotten her hormone, and sugar levels under control, and she's lost all the weight and bloating it was causing. She's on a soaked Teff Hay diet, and she is doing so well. She's looking BEAUTIFUL! She is the sweetest girl! She absolutely loves everyone, human and equine alike. She especially loves getting groomed, and getting one on one attention. She is excellent for the farrier, halters, leads, and trailers like a champ! She will have to be on a strict soaked hay diet, and her medications for the remainder of her life.

Elvis is a very sweet boy, that loves his cushy bed and lots of attention. He gets along well with the others. He is neutered and ready to find a loving family.

Fuzzy is an owner-release donkey we simply couldn't ignore. He was a neglected Jack living with another that was attacking him. He was pretty unhandled, distrusting, and had horrible hooves. He was born on the property where he came from, and we decided he deserved another chance at a great life. We picked him up on June 13, 2026. He was terrified when he arrived we had to cold hose him, because he was sweating so much. It was awful. We are so glad we got him!  He has had lots of love and attention from all our volunteers and has made a complete turnaround. He is now in great health and his hooves have been sorted out. He loves people and attention now. He gives the best hugs! He is well behaved with his herd mates, leads, and does well for the farrier. We would love for Fuzzy to find a forever home with a sweet minded companion and a family who will continue to give him all the love and attention he deserves.

We don't have any background other than she was listed as a gelding at the auction, and is a survivor from the nightmare known as ROAR. We ended up saving her along with 11 other survivors at their second auction in January 2025. The rescue has been working with her on gentling, and farrier work. She's now part of the rescue herd, and gets along with everyone, although she does prefer hanging out with Maylama who is in sanctuary at the rescue. She's starting to like attention, will come up for scratches now! She enjoys grooming, and cookies too! She is all around just a sweet, and beautiful girl. We want her to find a family that has the time to spend giving her the attention and love that she deserves. One that will understand she still needs some help with learning all the things she's expected to know.

Huckleberry is one of sweet Clementine’s babies. He is the only boy and a ginger like his mama. He is very sweet and extremely playful. He is very good with his little sisters. He loves people, toys, and scratches. He is weaned, litter box trained, and will be neutered before adoption.

Kiwi is a sweet tabby kitten. She loves to be cuddled and play. She is weaned, litter box trained, and will be spayed at the end of September. We would love for her to recover from surgery with her new family.

Precious little mini Napoleon is such a sweet boy. When he arrived here, he was very underweight with his ribs showing, and he was still an intact stud. We've got him at a great weight and we had him gelded. Napoleon is super sweet. He leads like an angel. He is great with children and he loves companionship of other horses.

We saved them from the Kill pen in April 2026. Their history is unknown. Possum is such a sweet young jenny, and they both love people and attention. They're good with the farrier, and leading. Since they're family, they will be adopted together.

Peaches is one of Clementine’s precious babies. She is a calico kitten. Some things she loves are playing with her siblings and toys, being held, and getting lovies. She is weaned, litter box trained, and will be spayed at the end of September. We would love for her to find a home a loving family she can go home to from surgery, to heal and start her new life being spoiled.

Poncho was an owner surrender. He wasn’t castrated and we believe he was used as a herd guard. He came with two goats and a mare he loved and watched over. The rescue had him castrated as he wasn’t used to being with other males and loved the ladies a bit too much. He was also not given an adequate diet, which caused him to develop fat pockets and a broken crest. He’s a very sweet boy and loves people. He loves being groomed and does all the things like a champ! He’s come a long way from when he first arrived for sure! The problem is he doesn’t get along well with other male donkeys. We tried him with everybody and while he wasn’t mean, he was too dominant.

He is a beautiful gelding available as a pasture pet. He's very gentle and lovable. Due to past neglect, he cannot be ridden due to dropped fetlocks. He can be lead line for small children, and make a fantastic companion. He loves attention, snacks, and grooming! He's easy to catch, trailers, leads, and is well-behaved for the Farrier.

River is a sweet and precious gelding. He's a yearling that was born with a congenital abnormality that caused juvenile cataracts. We think he has some limited vision, as he always checks his perimeters. He's a good minded horse, and is very gentle. He loves people, lots of attention, and enjoys companionship with other horses. He leads well, and is well-behaved for the farrier. We turn him out in the paddock with his other horse friends, but he stays in a turnout for safety. He loves going for walks too. We would love for him to find a experienced horse family that would devote their time to him, provide him training as he has the temperament and bravery to possibly ride or be a therapy horse. He would make a great companion, and would more than likely love having children loving on him.

Sabrina came to the rescue with her then 3-4 month old baby Shadow. She is a very sweet girl that loves attention.she does very good with other kittens and cats. She is now spayed.

Shadow came to the rescue with his mama Sabrina last September when he was only 3-4 months old. He's been neutered, and is approximately a year old now. He's a sweet boy, and is looking for a loving family to give him his forever home!

On August 2, 2026 the rescue was contacted about an orphan foal at the Bowie Livestock Sale Barn. He had been separated from his mother and desperately needed the specialized care that orphan babies require. We went to the Bowie Livestock Sale Barn to pick him up. We brought him home, bathed him, and treated all of the bite wounds covering his little body.  Orphan foals should never end up at a sale barn. They definitely should not be made orphans AT the sale barn for greed!! They are vulnerable. The larger horses can bite, kick and chase them. These babies can become frightened, depressed and completely overwhelmed. Sometimes they simply give up hope. When we arrived at Bowie, Skye was in the same pen as another orphan baby. After speaking with Thalia from All Seated At The Barm Rescue, I learned that the other baby was rescued by them. They had named him Eddie. After we got Skye home, I couldn’t stop thinking about that other little baby. These two had already found each other. They found safety and love in each other, since they had been taken away from their mamas. They needed to stay together. On August 4, I reached out to Thalia and asked if we could take Eddie into our care so the two could be together. She told me that they had taken him to the hospital for treatment. She agreed that once he was released we could pick him up. On August 10, we brought Eddie home. When he arrived at Double D we changed his name to Skylar, because I thought Skye and Skylar sounded perfect together. When these two babies were reunited p, they were sSO happy ❤️. No longer alone. Now longer without a friend. They spent their days snuggling and cuddling together in their stall. Then on August 19, we noticed something very wrong. Baby Skylar was having labored breathing and we knew he needed immediate medical attention. We rushed him to the hospital. He spent 14 days receiving intensive veterinary care. During that time these precious babies were also dealing with strangles, with abscesses that filled with pus and needed time to drain and heal. Skylar’s hospitalization resulted in a veterinary bill of more than 10,000. Today we are continuing our efforts to get that bill paid in full. Because this little guy deserved a chance. He deserved the medical care he needed. He deserved to live. And our wonderful rescue team helped give him that chance ❤️. On September 2, Skylar was finally released from the hospital. And once again, he and Skye were reunited. These two innocent orphan babies have formed the most amazing bond. On September 4, we had both babies retested for strangles to make sure they were cleared before allowing them access to the larger turnout areas.  on September 18, 2026, something incredibly special happened. Skylar and Skye got to run. They got to romp, play, and be foals 🥹❤️. After everything these two babies have been through, watching them run and play together was one of those moments that reminds us why we do what we do. They have completed their journey of healing from their illness. Now their job is simply to be babies. To eat, grow, gain weight and muscle, play, and enjoy their lives! They will be at the rescue until they’ve reached some more milestones, and then will be gelded when it’s completely safe to do so.  We will be looking for a VERY experienced and loving horse family to adopt these boys together and continue with the proper training to teach them all the things they will need to learn to become the most awesome horses we know they will be!

Snowman is an owner relinquish and came to the rescue with Brownie on 6-13-26. He is about 34 1/2” tall and is castrated. He is a little unsure, but will accept scratches. We are not sure why they are like this since their previous family were very good to them and loved them very much. We’ve been working with him as much as we can, but feel he may require a family with an equine background which will have the tools to help get him to their endgame. He will need to learn its safe to be loved, handled, and be trained todo the things that are required.

Sonia is an Owner Release tall standard donkey. Last year in 2025 Sonia had a double bilateral tendon surgery on her front legs. She arrived with horrible hooves. Now she is on track to a bright future looking forward to a family who will give her lots of love and cuddles. Her adoption fee is $700.

They.’re about 36” tall. They're both very well-behaved and get along with their herd mates. They love attention, and grooming. They both are champs with haltering, leading, loading and behave for the farrier. They both have over-eating syndrome, and are on a strict hay diet for weight loss. Otherwise, they're in great health. They're a bonded pair and we would be over the moon if they could be adopted.

Violet is a bit shy, but warms up especially with cookies and carrots! She is approximately 34-36” in height. She’s been at the rescue for a couple of years. The friends she came with were all adopted. She gets along with everyone here, big and small.  She was over fed at her previous home, so she came with fat pads on her butt, sides, and a broken crest. We put her on a diet that supports her weight, age, and overall health. She’s much more healthy and has lost most of her fat pads, but she does need her teeth monitored every 6 months or so. She is fairly good with haltering, leading, and trailering. She absolutely loves to be groomed! She is getting better with the farrier.  She needs a consistent person in her life, that will have the time to earn her trust and show her all the love she deserves.
