We provide a new intake evaluation to properly meet their needs — bringing them current on vetting, immunizations, dental care, hoof care, and proper nutrition.

What Is the Owner Release Program?
Sometimes life circumstances change and donkey owners find themselves unable to continue providing the care their animals deserve. Double D Animal Rescue's Donkey Owner Release Program offers a safe, humane, and judgment-free option for owners who need to surrender their donkey.
When you release your donkey to us, they receive a full health assessment, any necessary veterinary care, and are placed in a nurturing environment while we work to find them a loving forever home.
How It Works
Contact Us
Reach out by phone or Facebook to start the conversation. We will ask a few questions about your donkey's history, health, and temperament.
Health & History Review
Provide any available health records, including a current Coggins test and health certificate. A 30-day quarantine period is recommended upon arrival.
Transport Arrangements
Coordinate transport to our facility in Rhome, Texas. We can help connect you with transport resources if needed.
Intake & Assessment
Your donkey will be assessed by our team and veterinary partners. We document their condition, personality, and any special needs.
Rehoming
We work diligently to match your donkey with a qualified, loving adopter who can meet their specific needs.
What We Need From You
Current Coggins test (required for transport)
Vaccination and deworming history if available
A photo of the donkey for our records
Any known behavioral notes or special care requirements
For Donkeys, a 30-day quarantine period upon arrival is strongly recommended.
