How to Adopt
Our adoption process is designed to ensure the best match between animals and families. We're here to guide you every step of the way to a successful adoption.
We take our commitment to healing horses in body, mind, and spirit VERY seriously. We take the adoption of our Horses and Donkeys with equal seriousness.
By following these few steps, your new family member can be in your barn or pasture very soon.

Steps towards Adoption
Send Pictures & Videos
Send pictures and videos of the shelter and paddock/pasture the Horse or Donkey will live in to [email protected]
- •Our goal is to ensure a safe and pleasant environment where they can thrive
Complete the Adoption Application
Fill out the adoption application so we can learn more about you and your property.
Complete the Adoption Contract
After you know which Horse or Donkey you will be adopting, complete the Adoption Contract.
- •The Horse or Donkey's name must be included in the contract
Right To Refuse Delivery Form (if delivering)
If we are delivering, please complete the Right To Refuse Delivery Form.
- •This form is utilized in situations where the Adopter did not provide adequate pictures or videos of the property to ensure an adequate review of property for safety issues
Send Payment
Payment must be sent. There are no holds unless payment has been received.
Boarding Available
We can provide boarding for a fee until you can arrange transport home.
Adoption Requirements
Please review these requirements before applying
- Must be 21 years of age or older
- Valid photo identification required
- Landlord approval if renting (written documentation)
- All household members must meet the animal
- Current pets must be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on vaccinations
- Veterinary reference required if you have or have had pets
- Commitment to provide proper care, training, and veterinary attention
- Agreement to return animal to Double D if unable to keep
Adoption Fees
Fees help cover the cost of care provided to our animals
Adoption fees vary depending on the type of animal, age, and medical needs. Fees typically include:
- •Spay/neuter surgery (if age appropriate). Horses & Donkeys Castration Surgery on Males only.
- •Current vaccinations
- •Microchipping (for cats)
- •Deworming and flea/tick treatment
- •Current Coggins on Horses & Donkeys
